THE PETER OBI INTERVIEW

THE PETER OBI INTERVIEW

Anambra people cannot forget in a hurry the subversion and desecration of the people’s mandate in the 2003 election and the attendant struggle for reclaim which led to the distortion of the state’s electoral calendar.

Ever since Mr Obi’s reinstatement as governor, he has made remarkable giant strides in ensuring that all sectors of the state are developed simultaneously unlike the gimmick of embarking only on road reconstruction which Ngige exploited.

However, as 2010 election draws nearer, the Governor should be reminded that the election is the battle for the soul of Anambra State.
He should know that the road to 2010 is more than urging us to pray the rosary and booking of masses. The hawks, predators, money-bags, kleptomaniacs and other political shenanigans are still very much around. These people are plotting, strategizing and repositioning day and night to wrest power from the incumbent at all cost so as to return the state back to the years of the locust.

To ensure that the process of rebuilding and re-branding Anambra is achieved, Mr. Obi should remember that putting in place a formidable structure from the grass root level to other strategic points remains a sine qua non or else the dream of consolidating the foundations of the present administration remains illusory, inauspicious and mere pipe dream.
The consequences of abandoning the Anambra project half way will be more catastrophic than the long years wasted in struggling for the restoration of the people’s mandate.

The role played by civil society organizations in ensuring that Anambra State set a precedent in 2003 as the state where the sanctity of the ballot box outweighed any other method of enthroning a leader cannot be over emphasized. The task ahead is Herculean.

Never again shall money bags and shyster politicians be in control of affairs in the State that prides itself as the home of the elites and the light of the nation. All hands on deck.

Yours faithfully,
Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah
Chairman Civil Liberties Organization
Anambra State Branch.
